A Magical Day of Music and Art
On December 7, 2024, the beautiful White Hall of Novosibirsk Philharmony became a place of wonder and creativity as we held a special SAKURA Project volunteer event. This unique gathering brought together the ancient wisdom of Japanese Katakamuna chants with the artistic imagination of young Russian artists.
The Katakamuna Experience
Children from Novosibirsk Art School listened to the latest version of Metatron Music combined with three ancient Japanese chants – Katakamuna verses 5, 6, and 7. These mysterious poems, passed down through thousands of years, carry sounds and rhythms that speak directly to the heart, even when their meaning remains unknown.
What made this experience truly special was that these ancient words are just as mysterious to us Japanese people as they were to the Russian children. We all listened together with pure hearts, letting the sounds and music guide our feelings and imagination.
The Power of Words and Art
During the event, we shared the teachings of Dr. Maruyama Nobuhiro, a distinguished physician from Sendai who uses both traditional and innovative healing methods in his practice. Dr. Maruyama, who graduated from Yamagata University School of Medicine and earned his doctorate at Tohoku University Hospital, has dedicated his life to researching the healing power of words, sounds, and visual art.
As the director of Maruyama Allergy Clinic, Dr. Maruyama combines Eastern and Western medicine with electromagnetic wave therapy, sound healing, and his unique “Kusuri-e” (healing art) in his treatments. His research includes the therapeutic use of Katakamuna chants and sacred geometry, proving that ancient wisdom can work alongside modern medicine.
Ancient Wisdom Meets Young Hearts
We explained to the children about “Kotodama” – the Japanese belief that words carry spiritual power. When we speak words with intention, they can create positive changes in our world. This concept exists in many cultures around the world, showing how universal the power of positive expression truly is.
The three Katakamuna verses we shared each carry special meaning:
- Verse 5 (Hifumiyo…) speaks of the connection between the visible and invisible worlds, creating harmony between what we can see and what we can only feel.
- Verse 6 (Soranimo…) describes the journey of the soul, like a butterfly traveling through different experiences to become more beautiful.
- Verse 7 (Makatama…) is said to create a protective sphere of energy when chanted, bringing peace and healing.
Art as Universal Language
The most beautiful part of our event was watching the children create their artwork while listening to these ancient sounds. Without understanding the words, they painted what they felt – circles of light, flowing patterns, vibrant colors, and peaceful landscapes. Their art became a bridge between cultures, showing that music and creativity speak a language everyone can understand.
The Magic of “Thank You”
We shared with the children that in every language, words like “thank you” and “love” carry special healing power. Just as Dr. Maruyama uses positive words and healing art in his medical practice, we encouraged the children to use kind words and create beautiful art in their daily lives.
A Bridge Between Cultures
This SAKURA Project event represented the beautiful connection between Russian and Japanese hearts. Through ancient Japanese chants, modern healing music, and the pure creativity of young Russian artists, we created something new and wonderful together.
The children’s artwork, born from listening to mysterious ancient sounds, proved that art and music can unite people across any cultural boundary. Their paintings captured not just colors and shapes, but the spirit of international friendship and understanding.
